Artichoke Basille’s Pizza Launches Gourmet Frozen Pizzas at A&P
New York, NY – (August 25, 2011) Artichoke Basille’s Pizza Co. has created the perfect frozen version of pizzaiolos Francis Garcia and Sal Basille’s famous Artichoke pizza. In partnership with The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc., the line of 10″ pies will be sold through A&P’s exclusive Food Emporium Trading Company brand at more than 300 A&P, Food Emporium, Waldbaum’s and Pathmark stores starting this week.
Garcia and Basille, who started in the restaurant business by working at their family’s Italian restaurant (Basille’s) in Staten Island, have been recognized by the New York Times and New York Post and have devoted fans including Keith Richards and Momofuku’s Dave Chang. “We are excited to bring our award winning New York style pizza to new customers and new markets. Having grown up shopping with our families at all of the A&P company stores, we found the perfect partner in A&P and their Food Emporium Trading Company brand,” says co-owner Francis Garcia.
“When we tried their pizza, we knew it would be a hit with A&P customers, and now we’re proud to make it available in our retail stores. The Artichoke cousins’ passion for quality aligns with the Food Emporium Trading Company brand, which offers customers a collection of international specialties from around the globe,” says Tom O’Boyle, A&P’s Executive Vice President of Marketing, Merchandising and Supply & Logistics. Both the Artichoke and Margherita 10″ pie will be priced between $6.99-$7.99 and will be available at all A&P locations by the end of August.
About Artichoke Basille’s Pizza Co.
After opening up Artichoke Basille’s Pizzeria & Bar slice shop in the Spring of 2008 on 14th Street between First and Second Avenues, cousins Francis Garcia and Sal Basille partnered with Strategic Hospitality Group’s Noah Tepperberg & Jason Strauss to expand the buzzing pizza machine. Their flag ship location on the corner of Tenth Avenue and 17th Street features sit down dining and also serves wine, champagne and over 10 types of beer including Artichoke’s own brew. Adjacent to the 75-seat restaurant and bar on Tenth Avenue is a slice shop that features the same 4 famous pies as the original location on East 14th Street and the newest location at 111 MacDougal Street.
