Freezing Research Award Nominations Underway
McLean, VA – The Frozen Food Foundation today announced that nominations are being accepted for the third annual Frozen Food Foundation Freezing Research Award, presented in conjunction with the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP).
The award honors an individual, group or organization for preeminence in, and outstanding contributions to, the field of research impacting food safety through freezing. The award recipient will receive a plaque and a $2,000 honorarium sponsored by the Frozen Food Foundation.
“The Frozen Food Foundation sees great value in recognizing leaders in the field of freezing research,” said Foundation President Kraig R. Naasz. “This award not only honors the present achievements of food safety professionals, but helps encourage new developments in freezing research, especially as they relate to food safety.”
The Frozen Food Foundation Freezing Research Award is the only award given by IAFP specifically for frozen food-related research. Areas of interest may include the environmental impact of various freezing techniques; freezing as a complement to other food preservation techniques; and the ability of the freezing process to kill or destroy certain microorganisms found in food.
“There is no greater priority for frozen food producers than safety, and the Foundation takes great pride in rewarding efforts to further advance the outstanding safety record of frozen foods,” said Naasz. “Thanks to the work of researchers such as Drs. Linda J. Harris and Dennis R. Heldman, previous recipients of this award, consumers can feel confident the frozen foods they purchase are safe, nutritious and of the highest quality.”
IAFP is accepting award nominations through Feb. 28, 2012. Award nomination forms, and instructions for submitting nominations, can be found online at www.frozenfoodfacts.org and www.foodprotection.org. The award winner will be announced at the 2012 IAFP Annual Meeting scheduled for July 22-25, 2012, in Providence, R.I.
