Harris Teeter Cheese Sculpture Is Tribute to Wounded Warrior Project

Sarah “The Cheese Lady” Kaufmann, will begin the delicate process of carving a tribute to Wounded Warrior Project out of two, 640-pound blocks of Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese. Sarah, a nationally recognized cheese sculptor, will be carving at the store four days before presenting the final creation Friday, Nov. 11, 2011.

The cheese sculpture is another way Harris Teeter can bring awareness to Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dedicated to honoring and empowering wounded warriors. Harris Teeter has been raising both awareness and money for Wounded Warrior Project since Aug. 2, 2011; a donation announcement will be made Dec. 2 at the “Acosta Believe in Heroes Tribute” in New York, NY.

For more than 16 years Kaufmann has been sculpting salutes to the military and their families. Famous sculptures include a six-foot long aircraft carrier celebrating the return of the USS Ronald Reagan and the “yellow submarine,” the USS Jallao, honoring the men who built and served on the submarine during and after World War II. Sarah will be available each day during specified carving hours listed below:

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 – 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011 – 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 – 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 – 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.

All cheese carved out of the sculpture will be donated to Miriam’s Kitchen, an organization in Washington, DC providing free, homemade meals and high-quality support services to more than 4,000 homeless men and women each year.
